The Best 6 Reasons Why Your Wedding Deserves a Professional Wedding DJ

Here are 6 Reasons You Shouldn’t Trust Amateur DJs For Your Important Day

#1 – A wedding is a unique event that require the skills and experience of a wedding specialist for a smooth, flawless ceremony and reception.

It’s about more than just playing music.  A Professional wedding DJ is responsible for coordinating the timeline, orchestrating the introduction and flow of events, working with your other vendors, managing the guests, reading the crowd and making sure the right song is played at just the right time.

Even a DJ who works at a club may not have the experience or personality to make the kind of announcements that are part of the reception experience.

A professional wedding dj takes the time to plan your timeline, makes suggestions to improve the flow of your wedding and generally takes the burden of worry off of you so that you can enjoy your wedding with your friends and family.  An amateur won’t have the necessary skills that are derived from having worked professionally or may not have invested in training to become so.

#2. – There’s a high probability that a cheap (or free) DJ won’t be in business by the time your wedding arrives.

Many low-priced DJs aren’t charging enough to support their own businesses for the long term; you’re just financing their hobby.  Meanwhile, your wedding is 6-12 months away or more. They probably aren’t insured or are using low grade equipment.  They may even be not getting their music files through legal sites.  All of which could mean a terrible experience for you and your guests.

I can’t tell you how many calls I have received from desperate couples who had a “friend of a friend” DJ cancel on them last minute.  Do you really want to take that chance after spending so much time, effort, and yes, money to create your wedding day?

#3. – Amateurs are not as concerned about their performance as a professional wedding dj is.

The amateur DJ is doing it “for fun,” and if something goes wrong, it’s not a big deal.  A wedding professional, on the other hand, risks his entire reputation and livelihood with every performance.  One bad review can destroy his business and he knows it.

I was working at a wedding providing photobooth services. The DJ they had  hired for their wedding brought along his girlfriend.  The girlfriend was going around to tables, picking up unfinished drinks that both she and the dj were consuming.  After 90 minutes, he announced that he was drunk and tired and needed to leave, leaving his client with no entertainment for the remaining time of the reception.  Fortunately, I had my equipment with me, and was able to finish the event.  The couple was very grateful, but when I asked how they found their dj, they said he had advertised on craigslist.

Would you rather have an entertainer who is 100% invested in his business and performance on your wedding day or someone who does it as a hobby?

#4.  The DJ/MC has a huge impact on the mood and outcome of your party, for better or worse.

Nothing can dampen the mood of the entire evening that an amateur DJ with no emcee training or skills.  Professional wedding DJs invest in vocal training and practice to optimize their performance.

I personally witnessed one DJ and embarrass everyone by making suggestive comments to the bride over the microphone.

Your DJ/Emcee is acting as your spokesperson to your guests.

Do you want just anyone acting as your wedding host or do you want a professional speaker you can trust?

#5. – An amateur DJ has not invested in professional equipment or backup equipment, which means that if something fails you have no music at your wedding.

A fully functional backup system at your wedding is essential to making sure you have music at your wedding no matter what.  Most amateur DJs don’t have a backup plan if a speaker blows or a laptop crashes.

A stereo system that sounds great in your living room doesn’t sound good in a spacious wedding venue.  Professional speakers and equipment are necessary for clear sound that has impact at low volumes, so your guests can speak at the tables even while the dance floor is thumping.

If you want your guests to actually hear your exchange of vows at the ceremony, you’ll need professional equipment. A professional wedding dj makes sure that is what happens.

A professional wedding dj invests in the right equipment because he knows that bringing the right tools to your event will allow your guests to have the best experience.

And finally, #6 – Your special day with a professional wedding dj who’s experienced in channeling the flow of events will be just as you planned.

Having an experienced professional wedding DJ  can give you the answer to all these questions. Who will direct your bridal party and guests at the ceremony?  Who’s going to line them up for introductions?  Who’s in charge of making sure the toasts, special dances and dedications go without a hitch?

Just having the equipment and knowing how to push play doesn’t guarantee the people wrangling skills you need for a fun, smooth reception.  In most cases, your entertainer is the one who makes sure your special events are executed as you’ve requested.

Taking the time to find the right professional wedding dj for your wedding will allow you to relax and enjoy the celebration you truly deserve.

The 4 Most Important Steps in Choosing Your Wedding Entertainment

How Important is Entertainment?

There’s no doubt about it: Music can make or break a wedding celebration—it is really the heart and soul of a reception. Hiring a band or DJ (or both!) is a given. But how do you find exactly what you want? It starts with asking yourself some basic questions—specifically, how important is entertainment at your wedding,  your budget, space allowances, guest demographics and what kind of guest experience is wanted. Here, we list 4 things to consider before you make your entertainment choice.

Think about what music genre best reflects your personalities and inspires the ambience you want to create: ’70s disco or a romantic string quartet? A throwback big band feel or kick-off-your-shoes dance till your drop? The way the music is delivered—by live band or DJ—also affects the atmosphere. Bands can create a lot of energy from live play, but sometimes are limited in the variety that they can play.  A professional wedding DJ has a full spectrum of music to select from and can usually play a lot of guest requests on the fly.  So you have a options to create the perfect entertainment for your wedding.

In the price war, DJs generally cost less, and prices vary depending on equipment requests and other services they might provide, (Lighting, Photo Booth, etc).  A 12-piece band, for example, will generally be more expensive than a DJ, since there are more people to pay. (There are always exceptions; well-known DJs can be just as expensive as live bands.) Band prices vary by the number of musicians, the amount of time you want them to play for, day of the week etc. When you are considering price, make sure you are comparing the total amount of services being provided.

Venue Space

Have your heart set on an large band? You first need to check whether the reception site has any restrictions on the number of musicians and pieces of equipment you may bring in, and whether there is sufficient electrical power or noise limitations. This also applies to DJ setups. Checking out venue and noise restrictions before signing your contract will prevent you from having to scale back from what you really wanted for your entertainment.

Emcee Services

If you are considering Emcee services for your wedding, many bandleaders or wedding DJs can help you.  Find out if they provide timeline planning as well as day of emceeing.  Also, make sure they can provide the professional sound equipment needed especially if they are also assisting with the ceremony music and sound.

Considering these options will help you in creating the wedding experience you want for yourselves and your guests.

How Important is a Professional Wedding DJ In The Success of Your Wedding?

Using non-professionals can ruin what you have worked so hard to plan

Your wedding DJ is vital when it comes to the flow and overall feel of your big day. That’s why it’s important to make sure you do your research and choose someone you feel will give your guests the reception experience you desire..

A good professional wedding DJ will cater the event to the clients and guests. HE/SHE is not there to show off their musical tastes. Yes, a good DJ will add their own style and flavor to put the night together musically, but in the end the clients and guests are the ones the DJ is playing for and any and all appropriate requests or ‘do-not-plays’ should be honored in the long run.

A wedding DJ’s emcee skills should include taking the time with you to discuss how you want your wedding to flow.  Creating a realistic timeline and offering suggestions based on their experience can relieve your stress of planning what is probably the single biggest event in your life.

In future posts, we will be presenting tips and insight into how much fun your wedding can be for your guests.
